Merry Christmas! Man buys wife Powerball ticket as a gift, she wins $2 million

This Christmas gift is hard to beat. A woman in Washington, D.C., won $2 million after her husband purchased her a Powerball ticket for Christmas, according to DC Lottery.

On Christmas Day, Pamela V. opened the ticket and her other gifts. Her husband bought the lucky ticket at Capitol Hill Safeway on Dec. 2.

The lottery stated he didn't know it was a winner until his wife opened the gift and they checked the numbers.

According to the lottery, Pamela stated it was life-changing. “We have college-aged kids, so this will definitely help with tuition.” The lottery said the couple will save most of the money but may take a family vacation to the Caribbean.

The lottery stated the $2 million prize was the District's highest in 2023. What were lucky numbers? The pair won big with 28, 35, 41, 47, 60, and a red Powerball 3.

Two Powerball players won $1 million in 2021. The 2009 $144 million DC Lottery jackpot winner received the largest payout.

According to NorthJersey.com, 15 lottery winners won the Mega Millions jackpot nationwide in 2023, and five Powerballs were hit. In October, a California booze store sold the year's greatest prize, $1.77 billion. The second-largest jackpot ever was won.

Probability of winning Powerball? It's understandable that some lottery players are drawn to Powerball's $20 million jackpot, but winning is unlikely.

Powerball jackpot odds are 1 in 292.2 million. The odds of winning Powerball across all tiers are 1 in 24.9.
